Boseong
Korea's green-tea capital — iconic terraced fields producing fresh, grassy-sweet nokcha.
Boseong, in South Jeolla, is Korea's green-tea capital and largest tea-producing region, with roughly 40% of national output. Its hilly coastal terrain, humid and moderated by sea fog, is planted in the dramatic terraced rows — built up from the 1970s — that have made Boseong an icon of Korean tea and a major tourist destination.
Compared with Hadong's wild, historic character, Boseong is the modern productive heartland: fresh, grassy-sweet steamed and pan-fired nokcha (green tea), made from native jaerae and some planted Yabukita. It is the everyday face of Korean green tea.
